This thread discusses the job title - i.e. should it be "Community Based Health Care Chaplain" ? Plus the brief description below this title which explains to patients and professionals what we are talking about.

After further meetings and discussions we seem to be arriving at a concensus.
The chaplain could be given the title of "Spiritual Care Advisor" (to avoid the NHS confusion over the title chaplain with its Anglican Christian history) and with the strapline
A community based chaplaincy service enabling patients to address the spiritual and/or religious needs which influence their health.

'Community based healthcare chaplain'
= people providing spiritual care services in General Practice and community settings.
Do we need to comment on 'lay' or 'not ordained' or 'who may or may not be ministers of religion'??

I agree with Community Based Health Care Chaplains as a good title. The strap line could begin - "Meeting the spiritual needs of patients in a primary health care setting, through lay or "ordained" chaplains, working within a non-specific religious framework enabling patients to address their spiritual health needs on their own terms.

Should that read community health care settings, as Asda etc have chaplains and they would come under community settings. Failing that we could reduce the wordage and leave it for now as General Practice and miss out “and community settings” – what to others think? |

Title-Community Healthcare Chaplain
Strap line – People providing spiritual care services in General Practice and community settings
Profile – Meeting the spiritual needs and well being of patients in a health care setting to
- encourage faith and hope
- restore significance and worth
- develop a sense of belonging
- provide support
- promote healthy life choices
This is for patients of all beliefs, cultures and experiences, and to include the care of staff.
Please come back if this doesn’t seem right or please pass on any suggestions.
I do not think we need to comment on lay or not ordained. |
