Community Based Health Care Chaplains

Thread 02 - Chaplain's job description and competencies

What is the "profile" of a community based chaplain. What experience, qualification, and training do they need?
This leads to a job description describing the competencies needed.

T2001 9th April 08 Claire Pollin

2 issues within mentoring:

  • supervision-oversight and problem solving related to clinical case load
  • spiritual director-dealing with chaplain's own spiritual direction
Might be useful to have 2-3 study days/year
CHCC may or may not be a useful vehicle-exclusively christian and rather 'churchy'
May be better facilitated through the network we set up (see national network thread)

JANKI FOUNDATION-produce non-religious training pack for spiritual care in healthcare

Can I suggest that -
Listening, Encouragement and Discernment come under the heading GIVENS, as they are part of every consultation.

Under Interventions would be the following -

Prayer, Confession, Forgiveness, Communion, Deliverance prayer, Prayer for cleansing, including home

Written work e.g. letter, Referral – e.g. KNS Counselor etc, Hold a service- e.g. thanksgiving, farewell

T 2003 17th May 2008 - Jan Waterson

I have links with the Janki Foundation, who should be invited to participate in the national network. Agree 2 issues within mentoring. Might put a sub one under the first about fitting into clinincal teams and maintaining focus and boundaries.  Management?  Guess CHCC not really the best vehicle nationally
