Thread 06 - Outcome Measures

This thread discusses - What are the measures of succesfull outcomes as far as the patient, the doctor and the chaplain are concerned?

T6001 9th April 08 Claire Pollin

List of 'spiritual competencies' could feed in to this.  Annie will find the web reference.

For starters...
MEDICAL OUTCOMES
reduced need for psych referral
fewer suicides
fewer antidepressants/anlagesics prescribed
Quantitive

CHAPLAINCY OUTCOMES
plenty of referrals
staff value the service
positive feedback from staff and patients
mix of qualitative and quantitative

PATIENT OUTCOMES
patient stories
Using summarising to agree patient goals at outset which can be reviewed at conclusion to see if they've been achieved.
Qualitative

What kind of things would we consider a good outcome?
What would we consider a bad outcome?
How to we gather data? - limitations of questionnaire given by chaplain-pt might not want to say anything bad having established rapport.  Self-selected group excludes DNA/s

No. of sessions NOT a quality indicator-1 or 10 sessions might be equally appropriate.
